flower child meet wild child

Whew, I made it! I don't know about you, but the past two weeks have been rough. I'm not sure if it's traveling through multiple time zones in a short period time or working all day, everyday since I got back to Boston, but I've been feeling a bit out of sorts lately. Luckily, I'm on my way back home to California tonight, and there is nothing that can't be cured by time with your loved ones and holiday cheer. I may or may not have learned that lesson from a movie. Ahem, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.

blue hearts

I can’t believe Christmas is only one week away! This year, especially the past month, has flown by. Although my long Fall vacation was just what the doctor ordered, it delayed my Christmas shopping. I don’t like to resort to very last minute shopping, but it looks like that will be inevitable this year. Here’s to hoping I’m more on top of it next year!

B & W

Hello! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! It's been snowing and freezing cold in Boston! Still day dreaming about the warm weather in Kauai.

12.13.2013

neverland

This post should really be titled "What I Really Super Wish I Was Wearing Right Now and Wish I Could Teleport to Kauai Pronto." Whew, that was a mouthful! Why such a long and slightly dramatic title, you ask? Let's just say this girl is already tired of turning into a popsicle the second she steps outside the door.

12.11.2013

unfinished

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend and start to your week! It's so crazy that Christmas is already right around the corner. I need to start my holiday shopping ASAP! So much to do, so little time. My mini hiatus in Kauai has put me behind in everything: work, blog, shopping, and life. Oopsies!

12.04.2013

rule breaker

Just a quick hello from paradise! I'm completely breaking the "no white after Labor Day" rule, but hey, rules are meant to be broken, right? Plus, white helps me enhance my barely there tan! Double win!

12.03.2013

dinosaur

Aloha from Kauai! I swear I'm working on my tan, but two days of rain have seriously delayed my progress! Good thing I have five more days of fun in the sun! Oh, so let's talk about this dino tank; I've worn it almost every day since it arrived at my doorstep. Gross, maybe, but I can't help it when I really love something.

11.29.2013

winter sunflowers

So this is what happens when you decide to wear a summer dress in the Fall, and then take pictures of that dress at 7 in the morning on a very windy day: you end up flashing way more leg than you originally intended to AND you look like what Casper the friendly ghost looks like when people try to mess with his lady friend. Needless to say, during the Winter I will make sure I drink hot coffee/espresso and apply a serious amount of bronzer before taking outfit pictures! I apologize for frightening all of you!

11.28.2013

happy thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!! Every year there are always many things to be thankful for, but this year in particular, I'm especially grateful for all of the amazing people in my life, and their constant support and encouragement. I only hope that I can return the love and support to all of you.

11.27.2013

Caught Red Handed

Whoops! I disappeared on you guys for a little bit! Things have been a little hectic with celebrating my birthday and preparing for my trip to Kauai. I can’t really complain about being busy though, since it's been all fun things.

11.23.2013

24

Yup, today is my birthday! YAY!!! I’m officially 24 years old, which means I'm only a year away from being a quarter-century old. Kind of depressing when you look at it that way! Haha. Anyways, I’m looking forward to spending the day with Paul and my family, and I can’t wait for my birthday dinner at Javier’s! So many tasty margaritas and yummy Mexican food.

11.20.2013

Birthday Wish List

Yup, yup! It's that time of the year again. Time to turn another year older, and hopefully a tiny bit wiser! I meant to put this wish list together earlier (sorry Mom and Dad), but just never found the time to until now. Better late than never, right? Right!

Plaid, plaid, and more plaid!

green bean

Hello, Monday! Normally around this time of the week, I’m still in shock that the weekend is over, and yearning for the comfort of my bed. But this Monday I’m excited, and ready to get this work week started. Why the excitement? Because on Friday, I'm headed home to beautiful California to have some quality time with my family, Paul, and my fluffy pups!!! Soon I'll be saying goodbye Boston fall weather, and hello to the sunshine!

11.14.2013

little black sweater dress

Happy Thursday aka Happy Almost Weekend! Let me be the first to say that "Winter is Coming" and to be honest with you, I'm not exactly thrilled about it. It's been SO cold in Boston, and it's been impossible to figure out the right number of layers. While we were taking these pictures, it randomly started to hail! Thank goodness the weather didn't mess up my hair too much :).

11.11.2013

Cozy Days

This is what I like to call my "I can't believe it's already Monday outfit." I decided that the best way to gently ease myself out of weekend mode was to remain as comfy as possible. Hence, the over-sized Old Navy sweater, just-rolled-out-of-bed hair, and my trusty (very stretchy) J. Crew minnie pants.

11.06.2013

Superheroes

Sometimes rummaging through my sister's drawers really pays off! Case in point: this beyond awesome t-shirt. I've always had a soft spot for all things superhero related, so it would be a lie to say I didn't let out a squeal of joy when I saw it.

11.04.2013

Orange Florals

Happy Monday!! I'm so excited that it's finally November, and the start of the Holiday season! In my very professional opinion, November is the greatest month because it contains the two best holidays of the year: Thanksgiving and my birthday! Hooray!!

10.28.2013

Blue Olives

Happy Monday everyone!! I had a wonderful weekend (and lots of wine!!) with my friends and my little sis. My apartment is definitely not big enough for my sister to live here permanently, but having her here these past few weeks has been the absolute best thing ever. Nothing is better than sister time :).

10.23.2013

Check Mate

If I could find a way to wear flannel all year, I would! Although my typical flannel combo often includes denim, I thought it would be fun to pair it with my latest obsession: my sequin J. Crew skirt. Yup, that means you'll be seeing a whole lot more of this sequined beauty!

10.21.2013

Last Minute

Happy Monday lovelies! I hope you all had a nice weekend. The weather is beautiful, and all of the trees are full of festive red, orange, and yellow leaves! I just LOVE Fall; hands down the best season!

10.18.2013

Neutral Wear

Happy Friday everyone! Today is a great day because I’m finally starting to feel more like myself and less like a cold medicine-addled zombie. Hooray!! I plan on taking it easy this weekend, and using my free time on Saturday to clean up my now very messy apartment and to see some of my lovely friends.

10.16.2013

Hey there.

Hi, hi everyone! Just stopping by to apologize for not posting anything this week yet. I came down with a nasty cold on Friday, and it has completely wiped me out.

10.11.2013

Play Ball

There is something about watching a baseball game with your family that is just plain fun; maybe it's devouring overpriced hot dogs, cotton candy, and popcorn. Haha. I enjoy sports, but I'm not one to spend a couple of hours watching a game on TV. I much prefer being at the stadium, where I can take part in all the excitement, while pretending that I know what's going on :).

You're Invited // L'Aroma Cafe & Bakery, Boston

Eating delicious food, and drinking coffee or cocktails are two things that are near the very top of my extremely long List of Things I Like To Do. Although I've lived in Boston for almost two years, I'm still constantly discovering new places to check out. So what better way to combine multiple loves than to start a blog series on local bars, cafes, and restaurants in and around Boston?! Thank goodness all of my friends love food as much as me! First stop: L'Aroma Cafe & Bakery.

10.07.2013

Trust Me...

Hello beautiful people! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! My weekend wasn't very relaxing because I was working all weekend, but I always enjoy spending time with my J. Crew family :). Alright, I have a confession to make: this is not my t-shirt. In fact, when I first saw Paul wearing this shirt, I told him that he couldn't wear it out in public with me. So mean of me, right?! Let's just say I quickly realized that I was completely wrong about this t-shirt, and now I want to wear it all of the time!

10.04.2013

Oreo Cookie

I know it's fall, but since the weather in Boston is having trouble keeping track of what season it is, I figured I could still sneak in some pictures from my trip home a couple weeks ago! Please excuse my unruly hair in these pictures. We took them in Encinitas on an overcast day, and my hair doesn't always like to cooperate in certain types of weather. But enough about my hair! :)

10.02.2013

Gone Fishing

The weather on Sunday was perfect for a leisurely stroll down Newbury Street! I couldn't believe there were so many cute little boutiques that I had yet to explore. Luckily, I had the perfect partners in crime! Jill and I spent most of the morning admiring and trying on all of the new fall clothes and accessories. Can't wait for our next Sunday girls' day!

9.30.2013

Back To School

This post is a little bit tardy! (See what I did there?!) I know school started almost a month ago for most people, but better late than never, right? Unfortunately, that excuse will most likely not work with most of your teachers, trust me.

9.25.2013

Insta-Outfit // Hello Fall

Happy Fall! I'm so excited that it's finally time for boots, oversize sweaters, and lots of layers. Today is a short post because I'm still catching up on things from my trip to Chicago, AND I'm in the process of moving my sister into my apartment. Yes, my lovely little sister is going to be living with me for a few months, and I couldn't be more excited! Can't wait to share our fall adventures with all of you!!

9.23.2013

She Sells Seashells

My mom is pretty darn cool. Yup, I said it! She likes to say she's not fashionable, but even though she doesn't buy new clothes all the time or wear the latest trend, she still has a keen eye for awesome clothes. Case in point, this dress.

9.18.2013

Insta-Outfit // Gloomy Days

It’s so hard to keep up with the weather these days! One day it's sunny and breezy, and the next it’s cloudy and pouring. It’s almost like Summer and Fall are constantly playing tug of war.  Although it’s sad to see summer come to an end, I’m more than ready for sweater and boots weather. Bring on the crisp mornings, changing leaves, and comfy sweaters!

9.16.2013

Boston --> Chicago

As we all know (or at least many of us know), September is chock-full of fashion weeks throughout the US and Europe. Last week it was New York, and this week it's London. But what most people don't know is that this week is also Chicago Patio Week!

Weekend Wear // Mellow Yellow

Happy Monday!! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. The weather in Boston has been extremely unpredictable lately, but this weekend was absolutely beautiful. I will admit that I didn't get to spend much time outside this weekend because I was working for most of it, but the customers that came into the store said it was quite lovely!

9.12.2013

Coffee Break // Let's Be Honest

Lately on the bus rides to and from work, I've found myself carefully (more like frantically) sifting through the thoughts in my head; trying desperately to figure out the next step in my life, and ultimately what I want to be when I grow up. I'm turning 24 this year and for the first time in a long time, I've found myself unsure of what I want to do next. And for someone who lives by plans and lists like I always have, this uncertainty truly terrifies me. When I was younger, my parents said that I would make a good lawyer, or should go into journalism because I have always been gifted with the ability to talk anyone and everyone's ear off. They were surprised when I said I wanted to go into medicine, not because they didn't think I could do it, but because they weren't sure it would be the best use of my skill set. But as good parents do, they put their misgivings aside and supported my new endeavor. I completed all of my prerequisites for medical school while sprinkling in a variety of other classes that appealed to the "Jill of all trades" in me. After college, I naturally searched for jobs that would give me the most medical experience possible. I knew I wanted to be a doctor, but I wanted to be completely sure before I dedicated a large chunk of my life to more school, grueling work hours, and little to no personal life.

9.11.2013

Insta-Outfit // Travel Wear

Although I want to look nice when I'm traveling, my main objective is always comfort. I'm very fidgety, and I become antsy on long flights, so I know I have to wear clothes that let me easily move around. This Free People sweater is one of my absolute favorites because it is light, breathable, and a beautiful ballet pink color. I also love that it has the option to become an off the shoulder sweater! It's not only my perfect travel sweater, but also one of my go-to sweaters on gloomy days.

9.09.2013

Day in the Gardens

When in living in Boston, do as the tourists do. I've realized that whenever I move to a new place, I'm easily sucked into my work routine, and forget about all the great things that my new home has to offer. It's easier to tell a friend or co-worker that you will meet them for drinks or dinner (that's what happens when food is always on your mind), instead of planning a trip to one of the many amazing landmarks in Boston. So, to break this vicious cycle I've gotten into, Paul and I planned a mini afternoon date in the Public Gardens. We picked up some food on the way for our very low-key picnic, and took in the sun while admiring the wide array of festivities that were happening around us. To top things off, we finished with some delicious gluten-free cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcakes on Newbury Street! In my humble opinion, no day is 100% complete or successful without a cupcake or large bowl of fro-yo!

S+W Mini Moments // Summer Part II

Summer is starting to end, and the mornings are becoming colder in Boston. But, you know what? I’m pretty darn excited for fall! I love seeing the leaves change, and bundling up in sweaters. I have to start planning my fall activities!! So many to choose from, and so little time.  So long Summer, hello Fall!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Coffee Break // Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you already know that I got my hair cut this weekend! I actually had my hair trimmed a little bit in July, but it wasn't noticeable. That was the first time in about 8 years that I let someone other than my trusted hair stylist cut my hair. I even dragged Paul with me because I was so uncomfortable going to someone new. I find it funny and, to be honest, a little strange that I’m a creature of habit when it comes to who cuts my hair. I find my attachment to my hair stylist especially funny because I have no problem traveling, relocating to new places, and meeting new people, BUT when it comes to major (or minor) changes to my hair, I only trust Colleen.

9.03.2013

California --> Boston

Hi! I hope everyone had a relaxing long weekend! I spent most of Labor Day playing with my puppies and running errands with my family. We ended the night at a really exciting, but very long Angels game. I'm sad that my mini vacation is almost over, but at least this will be a short work week.

8.30.2013

Insta-Outfit // Semi-Casual Friday

I hate to rub it in, but I'm currently soaking up some much needed California sun, and cuddling with my little fury munchkins. This is exactly what the doctor ordered! :) While I definitely don't need a blazer during the day in California, it's perfect when the cooler evening rolls around, and and a definite MUST for Boston evenings. I love how easily a blazer can dress up a simple outfit. It adds the just the right amount of fancy to everything!

8.28.2013

Insta-Outfit // Belting It

Why, hello there! I meant to put up a post on Monday, but a funny thing called life got in the way. My weekend was laid back until Sunday came, and I had to take the final for my summer course. Luckily, I'm officially done with school, which means my summer of craziness is finally over! I don't know why I thought it would be a good idea to take an entire year of Human A&P in three months, but hey, you only live once, right? Plus, it never hurts to keep your brain active! On another note, Paul and I leave for California tomorrow!! I can't wait to have some fun time with my family and fluffy puppies! What are your end of summer plans?

8.23.2013

Insta-Outfit // Casual Friday

Happy Friday! Snapped a few pictures of my casual Friday outfit from last week. I'm obsessed with this J. Crew silk blouse. It's perfect for these warm summer days. Also, LOVE these Sperry wedges! They are super comfy, and a nice change from my typical boat shoes.

8.22.2013

Insta-Outfit // Easy Breezy

Just a quick hello, and some pictures of yesterday's outfit! I hope everyone is having a great week! One more day until the weekend!!

8.21.2013

Easy Stripes

Wow, I can’t believe the month of August is almost over! This summer seemed to fly by, except for the occasional week that went slower than molasses, like, for example, last week. While I will be sad when these warm summer days disappear, the end of summer means the end of my Human Anatomy & Physiology course (hooray!). There were times when I thought this final week of class would never arrive, but alas, it’s finally here! To congratulate myself, I bought this cute striped dress (on super sale). I just can't own enough stripes! Everybody needs more stripes in their wardrobes, right? Right!

8.14.2013

Red, White, & Navy Gingham

Happy Wednesday! I don’t mean to sound like a broken record, but lately I have been looking forward to the weekend more and more. I’m not sure if it’s because work has become monotonous recently, or because I haven’t had a vacation in what seems like forever. One thing I do know is that my summer of craziness is finally starting to run me down. This girl can only handle so much craziness before getting burnt out. Luckily, there is only one more week of school left, and then I’m off to California for some much needed time with my family and puppies! Only 16 more days to go! YAY!

8.09.2013

S+W InstaSnaps // Summer Part I

Happy Friday everyone!!

I'm so excited that the weekend is finally here! For some reason, this week seemed to go by so slowly. I struggled to keep myself in my wee little cubicle for more than a couple hours at a time. Of course, it didn't help that the weather was so beautiful all week. Follow me on Instagram @kimikokossler to keep up with all of my summer shenanigans!

xoxo,
Kimiko

Weekend Wear // Red Gingham

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend! My weekend was pretty laid back, but I still had lots of fun! Paul and I went to the New England Aquarium on Saturday. They just revamped the HUGE ocean tank that's home to turtles, sharks, stingrays, eels, and a large variety of fish. The penguins were absolutely adorable! I probably made Paul stop every 5 minutes to look at them; thank goodness he’s so patient with me. I also touched a stingray for the first time! I've been to several aquariums, but was always too nervous to touch them before, and I didn't expect them to be so squishy and friendly! Oh, I almost forgot that we also saw the 3D IMAX movie about great white sharks. I’m still shocked by how close the free divers got to the sharks.

7.31.2013

Bronze and Black

I love wearing all black, but sometimes it’s nice to spice up your black outfit with a little metallic shimmer. This has become one of my go to outfits for the weekend, and even for work (with a cardigan over my tank top). The wide elastic waistband makes the skirt extremely comfortable, and prevents it from riding up when I’m running errands or going back and forth across the hospital. The skirt is also very forgiving, which is perfect for those evenings that require multiple desserts. You all know how much I love my sweets!
