Bronze and Black

I love wearing all black, but sometimes it’s nice to spice up your black outfit with a little metallic shimmer. This has become one of my go to outfits for the weekend, and even for work (with a cardigan over my tank top). The wide elastic waistband makes the skirt extremely comfortable, and prevents it from riding up when I’m running errands or going back and forth across the hospital. The skirt is also very forgiving, which is perfect for those evenings that require multiple desserts. You all know how much I love my sweets!

Linen and Dots

This has been one of those weeks that can't go by fast enough. Do you ever have those times when it feels like literally everything (okay that might be a tad bit dramatic) is being thrown at you? Well for me, it's been this week. Okay, to be fair, the only major hiccup this week has been my out of control asthma, but let me tell you, not being able to breathe right is exhausting and it makes you feel a little loopy. That being said, I didn't want to neglect all of you for too long, so I figured it was about time I posted something.

Connect The Dots

Let’s be honest, if you had to name a pattern that you can never have enough of, and will never go out of style, one of your first responses (besides stripes) would be polka dots. It’s a pattern that can be worn by all ages and on all occasions (even wedding dresses now come adorned in polka dots).

Also, how great is this yellow?!  I don’t own many things in yellow, but after wearing this skirt, I realized that I need to start adding more yellow into my wardrobe. It’s been so hot here in Boston that dresses and skirts have become my summer go-to's.

Green Florals

Wow, last week was crazy! I was the only one who had the privilege of actually showing up to work (joking!), as everyone else was on vacation. And my luck got better, because it happened to be one of the craziest weeks at work, AND it was also the same week as my midterm for the second semester of my summer class.  But regardless of the days without lunch, the constant chaos, and the sting of my sleep deprived eyes, I felt a deep sense of accomplishment after successfully reaching the end of what seemed like a never ending tunnel. Of course, now I'm thoroughly exhausted, and already looking forward to some time to relax next weekend!

Coffee Break // Daydreaming

I typically find myself daydreaming while I'm on my way to and from work. I think the lull of the bus and the T make it easier for me to get lost in my thoughts. When I let my mind wander, I often find myself making to-do lists and planning out my next few days. Although planning and organizing my week keeps the stress at bay during busy weeks, it's not nearly as enjoyable as a few minutes of free, unhindered thinking. To me, daydreaming is just that; it's a time for my mind to let go and think of things, from  the relaxing to the just plain ridiculous. It's the few minutes in the day (if I'm lucky, this happens every day) when rules and reality do not apply.

All of that being said, I've recently caught myself daydreaming more than usual. I can assure you it's not because this summer has been stress-free; in fact it's been quite the opposite. When I tried to figure out why I've been day dreaming more than usual, I realized that my crazy schedule is most likely the culprit. Besides the amazing support from my family, friends, and of course Paul, the few minutes a day that I let myself daydream has made this summer bearable, and, to be honest, even enjoyable. Although daydreaming is not meditation (I do want to start practicing that too!), it's my way to deal with the everyday stresses of life, and give myself a few minutes to reset before I tackle my next challenge.

So I encourage all of you to take a few minutes out of your day to let your mind wander, whether that be by day dreaming, meditating, reading, walking, or anything really. You never know what crazy new ideas might pop into your head!

Happy Daydreaming!

XO,
Kimiko

Beaded Florals

By now, it should be pretty evident that I love all things preppy. I blame it on growing up wearing striped and plaid school uniforms. But while I love and fully embrace the preppy style, I also love the flowy and free spirited boho style. I love everything about this Free People dress. The dark floral pattern and intricate beading make it a little edgier than your typical sundress, which is great when you don’t feel like going for the “I’m a delicate flower” look.

Coffee Break // Hi. Hello.

Hi! Hello!

I know what you’re all thinking: long time no post, right? It has been a few days since my last post, but time just got away from me last week. I get a tiny bit of test anxiety (by a tiny bit I mean tons), so I was in nonstop study/freak out mode until my final was over. The good news is that I have officially completed 1/3 of my class; only 2/3 left to go! Yay!

So about this midweek holiday…I think it’s strange to have a holiday on Thursday and then return to work on Friday, but I’ll never say no to a one day vacation! I plan on soaking up plenty of sun (with lots of sunscreen, of course) and eating tons of delicious food! I hope everyone has a lovely and fun-filled 4th of July!

XO,
Kimiko

p.s. What’s better than one coffee break post? Two coffee break posts! You’re welcome :)
