Chambray and Neutrals

These days I’m all about chambray! When I bought my first chambray shirt from J. Crew, I let it sit in my drawer for a very long time. I honestly don’t know what I was thinking, because now I wear a chambray shirt at least once a week, every week. They are just so comfortable and easy to wear with everything!

Thursday's Thought // On Being Indecisive

If you know me, you will know that I'm fairly indecisive, especially when it comes to food. Even though having a gluten allergy significantly cuts down my options at most places, I STILL struggle to pick something to eat. Does anybody else have this issue? Please tell me I’m not alone in this struggle!

Well, believe it or not, this post is not about food, but rather about my indecisiveness in general. Although I wish I wasn't so torn about things, sometimes I just can't help it. In a lot of ways, developing my blog has been a great way to channel this wasted energy into something productive. This blog gives me the creative freedom to add/change/subtract things until I find the perfect mix. Even after I find that perfect mix, I can still shake things up a bit!

And, while most of the time I find my indecisiveness inconvenient, when it comes to creating the perfect editorial schedule for my blog, I think my ability to constantly change things and come up with new ideas is very helpful. I'm excited to put one of my flaws to good use, and to continue to find my perfect mix!

I hope you all have a lovely Thursday!

Dottie

I hope everyone had a great weekend! My parents flew into Boston on Friday, and on Saturday we took a mini road trip down to Amherst to help my sister pack up her room. Although my ideal weekend doesn't include packing and moving everything out of a dorm room, being able to spend time with my whole family was great! Plus, not only was I treated to several delicious meals, I also did some "shopping" in my sister’s closet for new items to add to my wardrobe. If you ask methat’s a win-win!! I don’t know about you, but I feel like Monday came way too soon. Luckily, my family is still in town for another day, so I’ll be able to squeeze in a little bit more family time tonight!

Cool Colors: Florals

HIIIII! I can't believe it's been a week since my last post! The past week has been a combination of crazy, fun, stress, and nerdiness. As I said last Thursday, my weekend was full of exciting events. Friday consisted of delicious gluten free pasta at Davio's, and being serenaded by Annie Lennox at the Berklee concert. Oh, Willie Nelson and Carole King were there too, no biggie :) Then the main event: Paul's graduation! Yay! I definitely didn't mind having an excuse to dress up two days in a row.

Word Study: Sisters

The meaning of sisters has been on my mind all week. It felt fitting to write about sisters today because today is my beautiful little sister's 20th birthday! I honestly still can't believe that twenty years ago today, my parents gave me the greatest gift of all, a little sister.

According to the dictionary, a sister is defined as the following:
1: a female who has one or both parents in common with another
2: a girl or woman regarded as a comrade
3: a girl or woman who shares with a another a common national or racial origin

Now, I'm not one to typically argue with Merriam-Webster, but when it comes to defining what a sister is, they really missed the mark. I'll admit right now that I don't have a Masters or PhD in English, but I do have a sister, and if you ask me that gives me all the authority I need to pick a fight with the famous M-W. If my twenty year relationship with my sister has taught me anything, it's that being a sister is a whole lot more than genetics.

So here's my definition of a sister:
A sister is your best friend, your partner in crime, and your confidant. She is fiercely loyal, a motivator, and your biggest fan. She doesn't always agree with your choices in life, but she will always support your dreams and will be there to pick up the pieces when things don't go according to plan. A sister is the one person that you can call at all hours of the night, and the only person that will stand by your side even when you had a fight just an hour before. She is the only relationship that is truly unbreakable.

How do you like that for a definition Merriam-Webster?

Karina, you are my definition of a sister. Happy 20th Birthday!
